Ideas competition for Lighthouse Sea Hotel project

With our proposal we suggest to recover the notion of travelling as a means of knowledge, or self-knowledge.

If, as Albert Camus wrote "The journey brings us back to ourselves," this idea is only possible from the apprehension of diversity. What is close to us can only be understood from afar, from the dialogue with "the other". So that, to achieve a real knowledge, it is necessary to understand well the place you visit with all its peculiarities.

So, in order to capture the unique identity of the landscape where the Murro di Porco Lighthouse is set in, our intervention is to establish a stronger relationship with the territory through two basic mechanisms: the itinerary and the contemplation.

On this basis, our proposal consists of a series of traces in the landscape, paths along which different moments happen: a viewpoint, a platform for swimming, a restaurant, a terrace bar opposite the lighthouse, a series of pieces to live in and to contemplate the place.

On the other hand, our intention was to minimize the footprint of the construction, offering minimal intervention to preserve and highlight the structure and characteristics of the territory. Thus, both the broken line road - that adapts to the topography and different geographical features - such as the simple and geometric constructions of small pieces of residence, scattered along it, highlight the nature of the site contrasting with its organic geometry.

In relation to the buildings, we propose the fragility and lightness of wooden pieces, compared to the timeless immensity of the place. To deal with the compactness and mass, we offer a concentrated dispersion. To face the sinuosity of the natural forms - simple geometrical shapes.

The housing modules are designed as a place for observation and retirement. They are intended as minimum constructions, ranging from individual housing to a maximum of two homes per module, to provide more privacy. All of them with sea views varying the orientation from southeast to southwest. The terraces are covered up with wooden pergolas to be protected from the sunlight and to provide a more intimate atmosphere.
