Ideas competition for Liepaja Spa-Hotel construction. First prize.
The Liepaja resort-hotel reflects the complexity as well as the duality of its location. The terrain is a frontier between two clearly differentiated settings, with an urban limit of ordained layout on one side and a natural environment of a forest and maritime front dunes on the other.
Our proposal consists in a series of buildings which could fit into both realities. A series of “boxes” accommodate the most intimate housing, meanwhile delving into the forest dividing and getting lost in the nature.
The thermal complex offers a distinguishable façade/limit of the town meanwhile its parts get fragmented and separated between the trees forming a filter area, a transition place between two realities.
The main space with the majority of uses is connected with the help of light and permeable “skin” creating connections between different parts of the complex. Different rooms border with the nature. Their different heights and flat housetops form horizontality contrasting with the dialogue the Spa centre creates through its façade and the forest.
